TRACK DETAILS
The string quintet, Lunacy, represents a second and more refined foray into character music. The adventurous six and half-minute work begins with a compelling fugal section and introduces three whimsical themes. All of these are first made to waltz together, and finally combined at the ending in a frantic triple fugue. Throughout the piece, the themes are constantly made to comment on each other in fragmented form. Though the piece is not as modal as its earlier counterpart, each theme nevertheless has its own clearly defined mode. The composer particularly enjoys the waltz portion of this piece.
